How to: Remap Bixby to Google Assistant on the Samsung Galaxy S10, Note 9, and other One UI devices

With the Galaxy S8, Samsung went full on its virtual assistant, Bixby and introduced a dedicated button to launch it. But this dedicated button seemed to be unwelcoming among many users who hardly use Bixby. Hence, after years of user complaints, Samsung has finally let users remap the Bixby button. The change comes with a downside, however. The button cannot be remapped to other virtual assistants such as Amazon Echo, Microsoft Cortana, or Google Assistant.

Yet, there is an easy way to remap the Bixby button to Google Assistant without any third-party apps. Read below to find out more:

  • Update Bixby
  1. Open the Galaxy app store. Type Bixby in the search bar and hit Update.
  • Install Google Assistant
  1. Since Bixby needs to launch this specific app, install Google Assistant.
  2. On the Google Play Store, input Google Assistant and tap Install.
  • Give a Quick Command
  1. Launch the Bixby app and tap the Menu button.
  2. Pick Quick Commands from the menu prompt that appears.
  3. Hit the + button in the top right corner of the screen.
  4. On the What you want to say to Bixby dialog box, key in ‘Google.’
  5. Click Add a Command > Type a command. Type Launch Assistant in the given field.
  • Assign Bixby to Double Press
  1. Head back to Bixby’s main page and select Settings from the Menu option.
  2. Tap Bixby Key > Double press to open Bixby.
  • Single Press Access
  • On the page that appears next, select Use single press > Run Quick Command > Google.

Now, once the above procedure has been completed, press the Bixby button once to open the Google Assistant. If you want to access Bixby, double press the Bixby button. This way, your favorite assistant has been put on the front to help you when you’re out and about.
