How to Setup & Use Alexa [Guide]


Alexa is Amazon’s voice assistant packed with incredible abilities. You ask questions and receive quick& latest responses. Amazon’s speakers Amazon Echo and Amazon Dot come equipped with Alexa. This way, you can control many smart home gadgets like lights, thermostats, and TVs.

Setting up Alexa in both Echo and Dot is almost similar. Alexa registration is mandatory to begin using the speakers.

  • Attach the power cable and insert the power brick into the wall socket.
  • Alexa will prompt you to use the app to complete the setup.
  • Install the Amazon Alexa app on your mobile device.
  • Sign in to with your Amazon account.
  • Tap on the Devices tab > + symbol > Add Device > Amazon Echo on the app.
  • Pick the model of the device you’ve got and choose the preferred language.
  • Check if the orange light on the device is flashing. If not, reset it.
  • Click Continue and choose your Wi-Fi network. Key in the password.

Upon completing the above steps, Alexa will proudly announce that she is ready to go. Try saying, “Alexa, what’s the time?”. She will respond with the correct local time. Alexa is not the only name you can call her by. Change her name into Amazon, Echo, or Computer.

  • Tap the Menu button on the app and choose Settings.
  • Set your location in the app.
  • Select the units of measurement for weather forecasts and distance.
  • To know more of Alexa’s capabilities, click the Things to Try option.

Begin using Alexa to make to-do lists, know the weather, check traffic in your area, make calls, stream movies, and control home gadgets. Once you get used to Alexa, your conversation with her will feel more natural. She’ll be your know-it-all friend at home.
