Printer Paper size customization & page setup [Complete Guidance]


How do I change the paper size settings on my printer

  • Place the custom-size paper into the paper input tray.
  • Open the one you need to print.
  • Select File, and choose Print.
  • In the Print window, select Properties, Preferences or Printer Properties.
  • Select the Quality/ Paper tab and then select Custom.
  • In the Custom Paper Size window, select New.
  • And, type a name for your custom paper size, adjust the width and height to the preference and then select OK.
  • Your custom paper size is now saved.
  • You can select the custom the paper size in the future and edit if needed.
  • Select OK, choose the Paper Size drop-down menu, and then scroll down and choose the custom paper size.
  • Make any other preference changes and then select OK.
  • Choose OK or Print to print the document.
Horizontal White Lines Through Print
  • If horizontal white lines appears while printing, check for the ink levels and replace the low or empty ink cartridges with a new one.
  • To check the ink levels, double-click the HP Digital Imaging Monitor icon on the right side of the Windows taskbar.
  • The HP Solution Center dialog box opens. And, select Settings and choose Printer Toolbox.
  • The ink levels appear on the Estimated Ink Levels tab.
  • To replace the cartridge, open the product cover.
  • Then, the carriage moves to the right side of the product.
  • Wait until the carriage is silent and idle and lightly tap down on the ink cartridge to release it. If replacing the tri-color ink cartridge, remove the ink cartridge from the slot on the left. If replacing the black or gray photo ink cartridge, remove the ink cartridge from the slot on the right.
  • Pull the cartridge out of the slot.
  • Remove the cartridge from the packaging and remove the tape using the pink pull tab.
  • Hold the cartridge with the HP logo on top, and insert it into the empty cartridge slot. If installing the black or gray photo ink cartridge, slide it into the right slot. If installing the tri-color ink cartridge, slide it into the left slot.
  • Push the cartridge firmly till it holds into place. And, close the product cover.
Incorrect print margins

To correct print margins, highlight the Setup Menu icon on the printer’s front panel display and tap Enter. Using the Arrow keys on the panel, scroll to Page Format and tap Enter. Scroll to Margins and tap Enter. Scroll to the appropriate margin setting (Normal and Extended) and then tap Enter.

Have a new Internet provider. Unable to unlock the printer to change settings.

Choose Start and then select Settings. Then, select Devices and then choose Printers & Scanners. Choose the printer and then choose Open Queue. Under Printer, ensure Use Printer Offline is not selected.

Colors are streaky
  • Locate the Power button on the printer and turn it on.
  • Open the top cover.
  • The cartridges should move to the center of the printer.
  • Unplug the printer power cord from the power outlet.
  • Remove the color cartridge.
  • Locate the copper-colored circuitry strip on the back of the cartridge.
  • With a soft, clean, dry, lint-free cloth, use an upward motion to wipe the copper strip from the nozzle end to the top of the cartridge.
  • Align and clean the cartridges by opening the HP Deskjet toolbox.
  • Choose the Printer Services tab in the toolbox.
  • Choose Cartridge Alignment and after the alignment process gets completed, do a Cartridge Cleaning from the toolbox.
