Officejet Pro 8720 won't scan because of error message for installation and configuration on laptop.
Uninstall the printer software from your laptop. If your printer is connected to the laptop using a USB cable, disconnect it.
Search for features on your Windows laptop and then select the Apps & Features or Programs and Features option.
Choose the model of your HP printer from the list of installed programs and then click Yes or Uninstall. If a User Account Control dialog box appear on the screen, select Yes on it.
Follow the on-screen prompts to finish the software removal process.
Delete your HP printer from the list of devices.
Ensure that your HP printer is powered On and is in a steady state.
Detach the USB cable if your HP printer uses a wired connection.
Search for devices on your laptop and then select the Device Manager or Devices and Printers option.
Search for the name of your HP printer, else expand the Printers tab.
Right-click on the icon of your printer model and then choose Uninstall device or Remove Device.
Comply with the instructions that display on the screen to remove the driver.
Reinstall the recent version of the HP printer software using the installation CD or from the manufacturer’s site.

Verify if your laptop has an external disc drive in it.
Insert the CD into the driver and check if a set of files appear on your laptop screen.
Double-click on the .dmg or .exe file based upon the version of the operating system used on your laptop.
The Windows Installer appears on your screen.
Install the HP printer software by following the directions that appears on your laptop and then click the Finish button.
Now perform the scan function to check if the issue is cleared. If the error persists, verify if you have loaded the document properly in the scanner glass.
